This is YOUR weekend…no matter when you got here, how you got here, where you came from, why you chose to leave your country, or if you even ‘had’ a choice…share your stories with your family…and with us…and CELEBRATE. This country is so much better because of you!

JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776) is the only inscription on the Statue of Liberty, etched on the tablet, it denotes the date that the United States adopted the Declaration of Independence

Emma Lazarus (1849-1887), born to a wealthy Russian-Jewish family in New York, wrote “The New Colossus” in 1883. In 1903 the sonnet was inscribed on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. Here is the complete sonnet:

"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Enjoy your weekend and love your hair!
