Steam Time: How to Steam Your Hair for Added Moisture

The “moisture” in every moisturizing product is water; the goal is for the product to deliver water. Enhance the moisture that your hair receives through steaming!

steam

There are many benefits to steam; great way to get moisture into low porosity coarse hair, increases moisture levels in the scalp to diminish dandruff, prevents shrinkage and increases blood flow to the scalp promoting hair growth. Most people steam because it’s a great way to open up the hair follicles to receive all the benefits of deep conditioning treatments.

You can start steaming right now, at home easily. Start with freshly washed hair that has been detangled, generously apply Jane Carter Solution Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner and follow the steps below:

  1. Soak a clean towel under water.
  2. Place wet towel in microwave for 2 minutes or until very warm.
  3. Wring loosely; wrap towel around your head, covering all of your hair.
  4. Cover towel with a plastic cap.
  5. Sit under hooded or bonnet dryer for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Rinse hair, apply Hydrate Quench for an extra dose of moisture and to strengthen hair with soy protein and panthenol. Follow up with Hydrate Seal & Shine to lock in moisture and seal hair cuticle to retain moisture; style as usual.

Tip - Another easy way to treat yourself to more moisture is by placing a humidifier in your bedroom which will add moisture back into the air and your hair while you sleep.

“People of excellence go the extra mile to do what’s right.” ― Joel Osteen

Excellence is for all of us; it’s about getting the most out of our talents. Excellence is about trying to make a little dent in the world, so that when we move on, we will have left behind a better place for those who follow!

Strive today to be better than you were yesterday. You have the potential to achieve excellence if you recognize your inner potential and fuel the flames of your desires. Excellence is a state of mind, rooted in an unwavering decision not to lower the bar and settle. It requires commitment; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Excellence is never an accident; it’s always the result of high intent and high standards of oneself.

The commitment is simple – demanding more of yourself.

Jane Carter Solution - Guide to Conditioning Hair

Conditioning is extremely important for African-American hair, colored-treated and relaxed hair as it adds the much needed moisture that your hair requires. A weekly deep conditioning provides hair the strength, shine and elasticity that’s needed for healthy hair.

condition_hair_janecartersolutionConditioning regularly gives hair the extra flexibility to stay strong and keeps it moisturized in the harsh, hot weather we will soon be experiencing. It also makes combing easier and styling more manageable. Seems simple enough, right? Well it is!

Try Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner under a heated dryer to maximize your conditioning experience and rinse with cool water to close the hair cuticle. Follow up with Hydrate Quench to seal in the moisture prevent frizziness, lightly mist with Hydrate Seal & Shine to add incredible shine and reduce dryness that may occur due to styling and heat.

Style as usual.

Teach Your Daughter How to Safely Flat Iron Her Hair

flat ironing hairPre-teens and teenage girls everywhere are more skilled with a flat-iron than you and I will probably ever be! It’s their go to styling tool, it’s imperative that they learn how to safely style their hair when using heat. Start with Hair Nourishing Cream; perfect for all textures of hair and adds shine while repairing dry hair. This wonderful natural-based product can be used on your hair and skin, leaving both feeling renewed and moisturized. It’s the first step in blowing out hair to be flat ironed straight.

If you are going to blow dry your daughter’s hair (after shampooing and detangling), spray Creamy Leave-In Styling Smoother, apply Hair Nourishing Cream and brush out her hair gently. Separate into four large braids; she can either let her hair air dry or dry her under a hood dryer. Once her hair is dry, you can blow dry it straight using a paddle brush or a blow dryer with a pick attachment. You are now ready to flat iron her tresses!

hydrate_cream_and_shine---CopyREMEMBER: If you decide to use the flat iron make sure that you mist each section of your daughter’s hair as you flat iron with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner prior to running the flat iron down the shaft of her hair. DO NOT, I repeat, do not turn the flat iron above 375°, 325° is preferable. A super-hot flat iron will permanently straighten the hair and she will not be able to wear her natural texture in the future.

It Was All a Dream…

JC 1986

Have you ever wondered how Jane Carter Solution came to be? What was the journey that led me to create a hair care line? Where do I start…

It was all a dream until 1982; with extreme excitement and unique philosophy about hair, I opened Breezin’ Hair Salon! We were known for our innovative techniques and dedication to caring for hair, but having multicultural staff was certainly the highlight. There were no other salons in the area that could service every woman or man that walked in the door, REGARDLESS of ethnicity. We were cutting edge and obsessed with finding ways to condition and moisturize hair for healthy maintenance!

You can read all about the journey to Jane Carter Solution by visiting the About Jane section of our newly designed website. I’d love to hear any memories you may have from this 31 year journey or about the first Jane Carter Solution product you fell in love with and when on our Facebook page.
