License to Laugh

Welcome! Your journey has brought you to this very moment in time, reading this blog post where I am speaking to you. (yes, YOU!) An alarming number of people suffer from seriousness…do you?

Seriousness is a condition that robs you of simple everyday joy, aging you quickly by the minute. Forget the wrinkle cream. Toss the pills and powders. Ditch that funny contraption you bought on an infomercial at 2 a.m. A hearty laugh can warm up a cold room, make our spirit soar and keep wrinkles from coming anywhere near us.

Children laugh about 400 times a day as compared to adults who laugh 17 times a day. Humor is energy, without it you are living in energetic poverty since you have robbed your spirit of the light it deserves. So laugh, smile, go check out a funny movie, or learn a new joke. Whatever it takes to put a smile on your face is what you should be doing.

Breathe. Laugh. Smile.

Create Happy Hair Memories

When it comes to caring for a child’s hair there are a lot of things that come to mind. They are “tender headed”, they won’t keep still, they will cry and flinch or they will fall asleep while you are creating sometimes very intricate styles. If you’re a parent struggling with your child’s hair, you aren’t alone! In order to make their experience an ouch free and pleasant one, there are a couple of things you can do to help create happy, healthy memories when it comes to little ones and their hair:

  • Moisturizing is the key: kids’ hair can get extremely dry. From wearing wool hats in the winter, to going to swimming lessons, to a general rough and tumble lifestyle, so many things can zap the moisture right out of your little one’s hair.
  • Detangling doesn’t have to be torture: never detangle dry hair! The keys to detangling are tools + technique. Use a wide-tooth comb to gently but thoroughly detangle hair section by section, and if you have extra time, use your fingers as a comb to remove any tiny knots or tangles.
  • Don’t ignore the scalp: Don’t layer your child’s scalp with petroleum based oils and greases. These products can sit on top of the scalp without providing any nourishing properties.

A little extra TLC will help with styling ease.

Knock Out Bangs

What an amazing woman! Intelligent, beautiful, passionate, grounded…with the ability to captivate the world with her smile and completely dominate the 2013 Inaugural Ceremonies with her bangs!

During the luncheon, the president said, “I love Michelle Obama,” at a candlelight reception at the National Building Museum, “And to address the most significant event of this weekend: I love her bangs.” Clearly Mrs. Obama, well known and admired for her fashion sense, is aware that bangs are haute these days! Yes, they’ve been around forever, and your 5-year-old niece may have them, but recently bangs have become a full-fledged fashion trend.

Her new coif, a sleek shoulder-length cut with thick, heavy bangs…the bang is texturized which gives a softer piecey edge to the normal blunt style. To duplicate:

Voila, “bangtastic”!

Master the Twist Out

Frizz, dullness and lifeless tresses are always ready to hijack a style.

Perfect your Twist Out with these tips, just remember - the bigger the twists the wavier and bigger the hair. The smaller the twists the curlier and more refined. Follow these tips:

Define: Tighten coils as you go, this will add better curl definition when you un-twist your twists. Halfway through twisting, pull ends apart to tighten and continue.

Minimize Shrinkage: Ensure length by applying Curl Defining Cream to each section, prior to twisting. At the end, pull twists downward and secure the roots with a bobby pin. As hair dries, it will maintain the length.

High Shine: Hair should is completely dry before you begin to unravel. To eliminate frizz, lightly coat fingers with Nourish & Shine, and twirl hair around your fingers as you separate.

In the end, you can get a great twist out with little frizz. You just have to keep at it. Practice makes perfect, curlies. Practice makes perfect!

The Dream Continues

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is a very special day in the hearts of all! As we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., I am reminded of one of the most compelling aspects of him…throughout his life, Dr. King warned us to refrain from keeping silent – to speak up when we encounter injustice. He reminded us not to sit on the sidelines of life and watch injustice; rather we need to speak out and consciously push back against it.

The day we decide to seal our lips against every aspect of life that truly matters, we are nothing more than a lifeless soul, our lives have no meaning unless we raise our voices against what wrongs are happening in the world. Regardless of the hurdles we encounter, whether domestically or internationally, we must never stop fighting. This is a struggle for survival, and if we stop just because the future looks bleak, then what are we fighting for in the first place?

Don’t let silence be the end of your movement in life.
