Moisturize Your Locs

Dry, hard and brittle…are these a description of the current state of your locs?

Locs require a bit of TLC, mainly moisture. Moisture is needed to maintain healthy hair and to avoid “ashy loc syndrome”. (gasp) Let’s start from the beginning on what you can do to maintain and deliver moisture to your hair. Keeping your dreads clean not only promotes healthy hair growth, but helps get them tighter and stronger.

  1. Dilute a sulphate-free shampoo to cleanse hair and remove build up; try Jane Carter Solution Hydrating Invigorating SLS-Free.
  2. Yes, you must deep condition your locs. Your hair will still need regular nourishment which will come in the form of moisture and protein; try Jane Carter Solution Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner.
  3. Leave-in conditioners open up the cuticle, moisturizing and coating the hair shaft; try Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.
  4. Always opt for products that do not clog the pores or cause build-up; avoid balms like beeswax or products that have mineral oil as their base. Moisturizing and emoliency is needed to reduce stiffness of hair and tightness of scalp; try Jane Carter Solution Twist & Lock.
  5. Drink plenty of water – DAILY.

Problem solved.

Protect Your Hair under Your Hats, Hoods and Scarves

During the breezy autumn weather it’s all about accessories! Your hair needs protection from the friction caused by wearing scarves, hats and hoods.

Cold temperatures usually include low moisture in the air and also less humidity, which can lead to hair breakage. Being that hair is already drier and more prone to break in the winter, fabrics such as wool or cotton can snag hair. You’ll need moisturizing hair products to keep your hair healthy until the warmer months arrive. I’m in no way saying that you should not wear a hat or that you should discard your favorite warm accessory, just take a few precautions:

  • Wear a silk scarf under your hat; you can coordinate it with your outerwear or your outfit.
  • Sew a satin lining to the inside of your hat or have one one added if you are not a super star with a needle and thread.

Kerry Washington Shines at the 2012 Emmy Awards

Kerry Washington is always polished, poised and phenomenal!

She stood out on the red carpet, draped in a rose gold and silver sequined covered Vivienne Westwood gown to the 2012 Emmy Awards. There to present the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie award, Kerry was “award show” perfection from head-to-toe! The Fred Leighton jewels that dripped from ears complimented her hair that was softly pulled back into a simple knot.

Whether trying to achieve this style with natural hair that will be straightened with heat or relaxed hair, Hair Nourishing Cream is the product for you! Natural hair lovers can apply to hair after it has been shampooed and conditioned, blow dry with a paddle brush. Hair Nourishing Cream hydrates while acting as a heat protector. Relaxed hair lovers can apply a small amount daily to provide moisture and shine.

Style and go!

Talk is NOT Cheap

Words such as fine, okay, not bad and nice just won’t cut it. They are lackluster and unfulfilling, kind of like window shopping or being on a diet on your birthday – I’d rather not!

Everything in life should be described with flair; spicy, interesting and semi-provocative. Words like brilliant, remarkable, present or fantabulous instantly injects energy and a pulse to your statement. I believe that our lives hear and respond to our words, often follow our descriptions. Find joy in every situation, every twist and turn of life; find joy simply in the journey. Joy is a lasting gift that lingers in your soul and ultimately guides every aspect of your life, starting with your words…

Which way are your current words directing your life?

Frizz Free Fall

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you won’t run into a frizzy situation here and there.

Frizzy hair can plague all types and textures of hair, from curly hair to straight hair and thin hair to thick hair. One of the biggest causes of frizzy hair can be a lack of moisture. If your hair is dry and frizzy, it is likely very dry and moisture deprived, lacking natural oils.  Frizzy hair is the result of a drop in your hair’s natural moisture level. Your hair may lose moisture due to the shape of its cuticle or due to how you treat your hair, but the solution is the same: stopping the frizz by adding moisture back to the hair cuticle.

There are two ways you can replenish the moisture of your hair: internally and externally.

Internally: A diet rich in protein and omega oils to moisturize your hair from the inside-out.

Externally: Products that hydrate and nourish your hair, try the Jane Carter Solution Dry Hair
Treatment Regimen

The right products, diet and simply giving your corkscrews the attention they need, will bring you from frizzy to being in control in no time!
