Grow Healthy Summer Hair

I have a secret (that’s not really a secret) to share with you all…healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp. To get gorgeous, healthier, thicker hair you need to start at the root – the scalp. Perhaps because our scalp is covered by a full head of hair that it is the most neglected part of body; our roots crave nourishment and requires equal, if not more, care.Your hair follicles depend heavily on the surrounding tissue for their blood supply to remain healthy; you can help keep your scalp happy and healthy with a little extra attention.

If you truly want healthy hair, shampoos and conditioners can only take you halfway through the journey. This is a collective effort that requires shampoos and conditioners free of harmful ingredients but also scalp TLC. Treatments that focus on the scalp are essential; just like your face, this delicate skin changes as you age and needs constant maintenance. Start with Jane Carter Solution, we’ve got you! We’ve developed these 3 great products to promote a healthy scalp and hair growth or hair restoration, mentioned in a recent Lucky Magazine blog post.

Thando Kafele: Advice from the Lock Star

Natural Hair During Colder Weather

A of my clients are more concerned with their style options, and are not convinced that natural hair provides versatility and beauty. Protective styling is very important during the winter months; both locks and other styles will need a large amount of moisture to stay healthy in the colder months.

Conditioning Your Locks

A lot of stylists don’t stress the importance of conditioning natural hair and locks. There is a misconception that conditioner will loosen up the locks. Hair needs more moisture in cold weather and hair and scalp treatments are very important.

How to Use Products at Home

Clients need to leave the salon with products and a follow up regimen. I suggest using a hooded hair steamer with Nourish & Shine cocktailed with Scalp Nourishing Serum, and then sit the client under the steamer for 10-15 minutes. If you don’t have a steamer you can do the same treatment using a plastic cap for 30 minutes. Use plastic cap with or without a dryer. However, for best results use a dryer.

Combat Cold Weather: No More Winter Hair Woes

winterblues

When winter weather hits, a bad hair day can last an entire season! As much as you like that nip in the air during winter, your hair is susceptible to a bunch of hair-raising situations that can ruin your entire day. It almost seems as if dry hair and winter is an inseparable pair. This season’s Polar Vortex is the most rigorous, and it is your hair’s number one enemy. Taking care of your hair truly is a year-long process, especially when frosty temperatures have taken over; dry scalp, brittle hair, static electricity, flyaways, limp locks, and split ends are some of the challenges your strands face.

No matter what’s causing your winter hair woes, you can take both protective and replenishing steps. Products that contain fatty acids and humectants are best at moisturizing parched hair; the butters and essential oils Jane Carter Solution products provided an added bonus of longer lasting hydration and moisture retention. The key is in conditioning! Regular deep conditioning, with heat, feeds the hair nutrients and increases the penetration to the cortex. Leave-in conditioner not only protects hair from the elements but also provides a final protective seal on the hair shaft, helping to preserve the moisture and nourishment that you have just fed your hair through conditioning.

Remember, hydrating your hair properly prevents unnecessary breakage, dryness, dullness and frizz. Just as water is necessary to hydrate your skin, it is also just as important for your hair. Hydrated hair is more porous and has a greater ability to absorb nutrients; leaving you with gorgeous hair all-year round.

We want to know and see what your winter hair woes are. Share your photo on our Facebook page for your change to win 3 Jane Carter Solution Daily Hydration products to combat your winter hair woes!

Tips for Removing Your Protective Hairstyle

Protective hairstyles have become the secret to tress success for many naturalistas! Protective styling doesn’t make your hair grow, but they do make it possible to prevent breakage since your hair may be breaking off faster than it grows. What protective styles do is keep your ends “protected.” These styles are more about hair retention; just make sure that no matter which way you wear your hair, that your ends are tucked away.

To maintain the health of the hair you just protected, you want to make sure the removal process is smooth and breakage. Follow these 4 tips below:

Patience, patience, patience! It’s all about timing! If you’re not in the mood to take your style down, wait until you are. The process can be tedious and requires a gentle touch.

Add moisture to the mix. Your hair will be much more manageable and easier to work with when there is moisture. Use Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner to add ease to the removal.

Start at the ends. If you’re taking out two strand twists or box braids start from the ends of your hair and slowly work your way up until it is removed.

Tangles Happen, Don’t Panic. This is true especially as your hair gets longer. Even if you’re very careful with your hair, knots can still form. Don’t panic, don’t tug, don’t brush it – just breathe! Take your time and simply slowly undo the knot.

Master detangling your hair. Detangle while hair is wet and saturated with conditioner; apply Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner, work through tangles with a wide tooth comb or your fingers.

The Power of Shea Butter

The fat of the nut of the African Shea tree (vitellaria paradoxa) is the source of Shea butter. The traditional use of the butter is to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars and stretch marks, and to ease a variety of skin irritations, such as psoriasis, eczema and sunburn. Shea butter is a rich source of moisture, vitamins and fat for your skin and hair. In its natural state, shea butter is a thick, yellowish butter that liquefies at body temperature. Natural anti-inflammatory properties make it a nourishing choice for the scalp, helping to improve your hair growth and health.

Q: I have very thick, curly hair that is frizzy and dry. You name it I have had it done in my battle to fight the frizz, chemical straightening, perming, Keratin Treatments, etc. – with no luck.

straight hair 1

A: Most women with curls and coils have tried tirelessly to straighten their hair and ended up with a frizzy mess, to put it gently. We all know that frizz can be the plague of curly hair; whether you straighten your hair once a day, once a week or once in a blue moon, the most important thing to remember is to keep your locks well moisturized. Healthy hair frizzes less, grows faster and develops less split ends. Taking good care of your hair can make your job easier.

Natural Hold Spray Gel is your key to hydrated bouncy hair. It’s a water-based, alcohol free styling agent. Lightly mist hair with Natural Hold Spray Gel prior to heat styling. As you apply heat from your flat iron, the water in the product turns to steam and infuses moisture back into your hair while leaving it soft and springy with a light hold.

Heat protection, moisture infuser, and holding power all in one!
