I came across an article yesterday on Vibe.com regarding a POLICY that Six Flags theme park has denying employment to those with dreadlocks. –blank stare- This has apparently been the case for many of years, with two ladies being denied employment in 2010. In the most recent case, 21-year-old Markeese Warner, a senior at Pennsylvania State University, arrived for her interview dressed in appropriate business attire, when she was informed that she would not be eligible for employment due to her dreadlocks. For Six Flags, dreadlocks, along with Mohawks, fall under the category of “extreme hairstyles.”

Six Flags issued a statement to ABC News:

“Six Flags enforces a conservative grooming policy across all parks. The policy does not permit certain hairstyles such as variations in hair colors, dreadlocks, partially shaved heads, tails, and hairstyles that impair vision. Braided hair is allowed but must be in neat, even rows and without beads or other ornaments.”

A petition has been created by a friend of Warner’s on Change.org. To date, the petition has received a little over 35,000 of the 50,000 signatures they are seeking.

Let’s all help put an end to this atrocity.

Follow these steps below to recreate her red carpet magic:

The process-

• Wash and condition hair with Hydrating Invigorating Shampoo SLS-Free and Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner, gently towel dry and lightly mist with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.

• Section hair into two halves and pin the right side out of the way.
• Working from the nape of your neck to the front, section out one piece at a time. Apply a bit of Wrap & Roll and put in the CurlFormer.
• Continue until all hair is rolled… takes me around an hour.
• Leave in until dry…or sit under a warm hooded dryer.
• Carefully remove one roller at a time.
• Finger comb using Nourish & Shine where needed.
• Pull one side back and get your Elle Varner ON!
