Cool Water Rinse

cold water and natural hari

Conditioning is extremely important for African-American and/or multi-ethnic hair as it adds the much needed moisture to dry, brittle hair. Using conditioning treatments regularly gives hair the extra flexibility it needs so stay strong in harsh weather. It also makes combing it easier. Try Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner under a heated dryer to maximize your conditioning experience, detangle, and rinse with cool water.

The reason for the cold water is that it seals in the moisture and closes the cuticle. This also helps to prevent frizziness and adds shine to hair. Follow with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner, style as usual.

Protect Your Hair from Chlorine and Salt during the Summer Months

Protect your natural hair

My favorite time of the year is approaching - summer! I love a bit of summer fun, ESPECIALLY in the water. There is nothing better than taking a dip in the pool or having a family day at the beach…wherever I choose to play; my hair cocktail will keep damage away.

Hair needs to be protected from chlorine, sea salt, and the sun. Chlorine and salt water will dry, discolor, and damage your hair - chlorine binds to your hair, filling in gaps in the hair shaft while the minerals in salt water can make your hair brassy and brittle. The results? SEVERE DEHYDRATION!

The following steps will protect your hair until you get home or back to your hotel room if vacationing.

Summer Hydration Cocktail

  1. Before diving in, completely wet hair with water and Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner.
  3. Dive in!
  4. Immediately rinse hair thoroughly with water and rehydrate with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner until you are able to shampoo and condition later that same day.

After a day of sun and swimming, I recommend doing the following to take care of your hair and scalp:

Remember to moisturize daily with Hair Nourishing Cream or Nourish & Shine to restore and maintain moisture balance (for your hair and your skin).

The goal is to hydrate, hydrate, and then hydrate some more! It’s imperative to steer clear of synthetic oils such as mineral and/or petrolatum oil, as they further dehydrate hair. Also avoid products that contain drying alcohol and sulfates. Remember, hydration is essential in protecting your crowning glory!

We need your help!
My 16 year old daughter Lexi is spending the summer in Honduras doing community service work with an organization called Amigos da las Americas(AMIGOS). This organization designed to make a difference in both the lives of youth Volunteers and of Latin American communities. I can’t wait for her to return to share her amazing experiences!
While on this adventure of a lifetime, she is living with a host family in a home with no electricity, no running water, and no indoor plumbing. She will be running a camp for kids between the ages ages of 7- 12 for two hours a day, five days a week.

AMIGOS
is currently in the running to win $250,000! We are collecting votes on Facebook via the Chase Community Giving Contest. There are roughly 45,000 other charities in the running of this competition. If they collect the most votes, they have a chance at winning $250,000! If they place in the top 5 they win $100,000 and $20,000 if they place in the top 200. Writing this now, they are just over 100 votes away from entering into the top 200, a goal easily accomplished with your support!

Thank you in advance for your vote,

Jane

“Independence is Happiness”

~ Susan B Anthony ~

Sometimes you just have to declare your own independence. Demand it!

Strong and Independent WomenAssert your freedom from:

  • stuff
  • relationships that no longer ‘work’
  • unhealthy behaviors
  • too much self-involvement
  • your daily routine
  • watching hours of mind-numbing soul-sucking TV,
  • the fear that you just might fail if you try…but if you never try…you’ll never know!

Freedom? How? Be kind, respectful, loving, gracious, make smart choices (they are the hardest), say ‘no’ to your children (it’s okay ), say ‘yes’ to your children (it’s okay), love your partner, learn something new each day, be generous with your smile and with your time.

No whining, now…take a deep breath, turn your face to the sun and walk the goddess walk…and be happy!
