America Recycles Month

America Recycles Month communicates the benefits of recycling and provides the educational background that helps raise awareness about the value of reducing, reusing and recycling every day, all year long. Recycling used products is one of the best ways to save the environment while making new items from used material. At Jane Carter Solution, we consider protecting our planet very important!

Recycling helps to conserve natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. According to the EPA, recycling one ton of aluminum cans saves the energy equivalent of 36 barrels of oil or 1,655 gallons of gasoline. If a ton of cans is a little too much to visualize, consider this: recycling a single aluminum can saves enough energy to power a television for three hours. Yet, every three months, Americans toss enough aluminum into landfills to rebuild the entire U.S. fleet of commercial airplanes. (eeeek!)

Here’s what you can do at home and at work:

How can I recycle while at home?

  • Be a role model; your family will recycle if you do.
  • Know your local city’s policies on recycling.
  • Keep a recycle bin right next to the trash bin.
  • Take reusable bags with you when you go shopping BUT don’t leave them in the trunk.
  • Use cloth napkins instead of paper.
  • Share books, magazines and newspapers with others instead of throwing them away.

How can I recycle while at work?

  • Use both sides of the paper when printing and only print what is absolutely necessary- the average US office worker goes through 10,000 sheets of copy paper a year.
  • Recycle paper, ink cartridges and toners.
  • Bring water bottles or coffee mugs instead of using styrofoam cups- styrofoam is completely non-recyclable. Enough styrofoam is created each year to circle the earth well over 400 times if linked together.
  • Be a role model and encourage recycling among fellow employees.
  • Bring your lunch in reusable containers instead of paper or plastic bags.

Take the pledge to reduce your waste by recycling…start TODAY!
