Hate is a Curse, Love is Magic

My Uncle Lemuel Penn was a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army that had survived World War II. After the war, he became a school principal in Washington DC. He was the victim of a hate crime when I was eight years old, killed in Athens, Georgia by the Klu Klux Klan. This event impacted and devastated my entire family!

It was the first time in history that a Klan member was prosecuted and sentenced for the murder of a Black man…justice in a way that many thought would never happen. It was then that my mother made me vow to love all people, no matter where they came from or what they looked like. She taught me that hate is a curse and love is magic.

Hate ultimately destroys the hater, not the hated. The magic of love is the transformation that frees you! Evolving to the highest is about learning to love yourself, it is about bringing love into your world, it is about loving others, it is about becoming love.
