Category: Chemically treated hair

The beauty industry has come a long way in a short time. There is an enormous amount of hair care products on the market and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down. That being said, it is important to know what ingredients are in these products, so you can keep your hair healthy and damage-free. Chemically treated hair may look good on the outside, but your roots are starving for hydration! We explain the harmful ingredients in hair products and how to take care of your chemically treated hair.

Q: I haven’t had a relaxer in “x” years, but I have straighter pieces of hair. Why?

hair texture

A: Whether your hair is chemically processed or natural, too much heat can hurt it. This pertains to daily heat abuse to your hair through the use of flat irons, heat can cause irreversible effects especially if applying high heat. Thermal damage causes curls and kinks to become limp waves or even lifeless straight strands. You may not be relaxing your hair but your flat iron can give similar effects, creating permanently straight pieces. (eeeeek!)

Always use a leave-in conditioner like Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner that seals in vital panthenol and humectants. This amazingly light product triples as a detangler, re-hydrator and heat protectant.

Brazilian Blowout Warning Reminder

We’ve long been concerned about keratin treatments, also known as Brazilian Straightening treatments, but shockingly…I still hear keratin treatment “love stories” coming from the mouths of more women than you would even believe!

carcinogen

Just a reminder:

Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Solution and Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution have agreed to alert consumers that two of its formulations emit formaldehyde gas, a possible carcinogen, California’s attorney general announced. The company agreed to pay $600,000 in penalties and fines for failing to notify consumers and hair stylists that its products contain chemicals that may cause cancer, and to have the products tested for all toxic substances at a state-approved lab.

Safe styling ladies!

Knock Out Bangs

What an amazing woman! Intelligent, beautiful, passionate, grounded…with the ability to captivate the world with her smile and completely dominate the 2013 Inaugural Ceremonies with her bangs!

During the luncheon, the president said, “I love Michelle Obama,” at a candlelight reception at the National Building Museum, “And to address the most significant event of this weekend: I love her bangs.” Clearly Mrs. Obama, well known and admired for her fashion sense, is aware that bangs are haute these days! Yes, they’ve been around forever, and your 5-year-old niece may have them, but recently bangs have become a full-fledged fashion trend.

Her new coif, a sleek shoulder-length cut with thick, heavy bangs…the bang is texturized which gives a softer piecey edge to the normal blunt style. To duplicate:

Voila, “bangtastic”!

TLC for your Edges

Do you fantasize about a thicker, fuller hairline? Do you have edge envy? Is it possible that your edges are…on the edge of disappearing?

If so, you’ve come to the right place! Edges are among the most fragile parts of your hair, and the pulling and grabbing naturally involved in styling can put strain on them. If you notice that your edges are beginning to stress, STOP and REGROUP! You too can have smooth, soft edges without causing any damage.
Yes, we all want our edges to look ‘neat’ and ‘finished’, but we also have to be realistic. Since your edges are more fragile than the rest of your hair, it is easily affected by bad products and techniques. Products that are super drying or promote buildup will put more strain on your edges, resulting in breakage and shedding.
Apply a little Jane Carter Solution Hair Nourishing Cream to your edges for manageability, simply brush back with a soft brush.
That is how you bring your edges back from the edge.
