Haute Hair Spotlight: Rihanna

Rihanna, the chameleon, has stepped onto the scene with a new cut…a versatile pixie. Smooth spiked or curled – she is rocking this crop cut to the fullest! No vivid color this go round, back-to-black with the perfect precision cut to highlight her main feature – her gorgeous face.

rihanna_short_pixie

Rihanna’s style is easily maintained by wrapping your hair. A wrap set is a great way to get a sleek look without having to apply direct heat to your hair. The goal is soft, light, feathery hair in a wrap set; regardless of length. Jane Carter Solution Wrap & Roll delivers a clean, soft finish with shine as it dries with no residue to weigh hair down or cause stiffness.

1) wash your hair with Moisture Nourishing Shampoo

2) towel dry slightly make sure you hair is still slightly damp; apply Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner

3) saturate hair with Wrap & Roll and comb our hair either clockwise or counter clockwise, making sure either hair is completely smooth and flat

4) comb the short nape down flat; add Condition & Sculpt if additional hold is needed

5) secure with paper or cloth wrap

6) completely dry hair using a hooded dryer

7) once dry let hair complete cool, then comb down wrap and apply a small amount of Nourish & Shine

8) style hair with finger and/or flat iron

Is Your Daily Diet Making Your Hair Thin

When it comes to healthy hair, it’s not only what you apply to your hair and scalp, that’s important…but what you put into your body. Hair grows faster and stays healthier when it’s nourished by a well-rounded diet full of unprocessed foods. A study involving 80 women, ages 18 to 45, who were diagnosed with thinning hair found that they had 51% had lower iron levels and 78% lower vitamin D levels than 40 women of similar ages who did not have excessive hair loss.

Have no fear! Adding supplements to your diet will assist in improving the state of your hair, along with help from the right hair care products. I suggest adding:

Iron is known to be involved in hair growth; optimal vitamin D may slow aging in general and also activates key genes related to the hair’s normal cycle of growth and shedding; drinking green tea increases DHT blockers in your system which also aids in fighting hair thinning.

Remember, the effects of thinning hair can be lessened by eating a variety of foods rich in the vitamins your hair and body needs to nourish your hair follicles and a little TLC with the help of Jane Carter Solution products.

Politics and Natural Hair

The New York mayoral race is well underway with advocate-turned-candidate Bill de Blasio campaigning hard…with his 15 year old son, Dante, starring in his television ad. Dante’s words are real as he articulates why his father is the best choice for the city of New York. What has overshadowed the message? His afro.

dante de Blasio

In an interview regarding his hair; Dante spoke of his hair care regimen which includes picking it out every day, washing it weekly and getting it trimmed monthly. A writer for Talking Points Memo, tweeted Dante’s parents in response to their son’s interview:

@deBlasioNYC and @Chirlane should probably encourage Dante to give his hair more than a weekly washing”; “I’m assuming he showers more than weekly and doesn’t shampoo but the article wasn’t too precise.”

Dante’s mother, Chirlane McCray, replied:

“Walker obviously knows little, if anything, about African American hair care!”

The afro has taken over; “Dante de Blasio afro” is an auto-fill option in Google! We’ve seen afros before, both large and small. Is his afro a powerful political statement; do the words in the advertisement make a stronger impression on voters coming from a biracial teen with cool hair than they would coming from a middle-aged white man from Brooklyn? Or is Dante just a young man embracing his natural texture as he states he’s been cultivating his afro since the third grade?

deBlsio

Dante’s long-term impact remains to be seen, but hair matters in politics – clearly. What do you think?

Progress through Pain

Pain is our greatest teacher! Often, people have felt that if pain is our greatest teacher then they want to drop the class. Not only is dropping the class not an option; it’s part of the human condition that we often learn much more from our painful experiences than we do from our joyful ones. The key to progress is when life seems to be spiraling into painful experiences, ask, “What is this experience attempting to teach me?”

Hello-My-Name-is-Pain

Trying to decipher the lesson in the midst of the pain and chaos is no easy task but necessary. In today’s culture, sitting with our pain, physical or emotional, is unheard of. Take a pill. Be entertained. Cheer up. Watch something funny. Do whatever it takes to make it go away because, “pain is bad”. We must practice processing pain differently; pain is a message from our bodies or from our hearts that something is wrong. If we never stop and listen to it, how can we learn from it? The stark reality is that if we do not learn from life’s lessons, history is bound to repeat itself.

Our strength is in our raw, broken-open reality. Don’t push it away. Don’t look away from it - listen to it!

What lessons have you learned through pain?

Are Your Edges, On Edge?

Our edges are….sensitive! Let’s start with age, genetics and underlying health issues couples with pulling, smoothing, enhancing, braiding, curling - pretty much styling period – causes our edges become even more fragile. Fragile leads to snapping and breaking, leaving you with paper-thin edges. (eeek)

shocked

You can assist your edges in the renewal process and grow great hair! How? With Jane Carter Solution Restore Grow Great Hair.

Restore_Grow_great_hairIn order for your hair to grow back, the hair follicles need to be rejuvenated to improve blood circulation thus promoting more hair growth. Apply Grow Great Hair directly to the scalp twice daily, to stimulate blood flow, distribute nutrients to the hair follicle and detoxify scalp. The scalp stimulation helps to improve blood circulation throughout the scalp while Nettle, Red Clover, Arnica and natural glycerides hydrate the scalp and stimulate faster hair growth.

It’s important be consistent; remember, re-growing hair does take time and commitment!
