TSA Natural Hair Pat Downs

People are natural hair women unfairly selected simply because of their hair. The TSA states that additional screening is required, "for clothing, headgear or hair where prohibited items may be hidden". Safety or racial profiling?

Take a Closer Look

“When the grass is cut, the snakes will show.” -Jay Z

Propaganda and obfuscation is all around us. Especially when things in your life are fine, instantly everyone and everything appears to be the same. We buy into ideas and interpersonal relationships without doing the digging to determine if all that glitters is gold.

Stop. Take a moment to reflect on the other side of the “extras” you may have been afforded. Think of those who are your rock in your times of need, your foundation when you need no judgment girl talk – they always end up being those who are not around for personal gain.
Cut the grass and look again…what do you see?

Flat-Out RISKY!

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) issued a hazard alert in June to salons about the potential formaldehyde exposure from working with Brazilian Blowout and other hair smoothing products. These products claim to be “formaldehyde free” yet average 8.8% formaldehyde when tested.

What is formaldehyde and how can it affect my health?

Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong smelling gas that presents a health hazard. You can be exposed if you breathe it into your lungs, if it gets into your eyes, or if it is contained in a product that gets onto your skin.

Formaldehyde is a "sensitizer," which means that it can cause allergic reactions of the skin, eyes and lungs such as asthma-like breathing problems and skin rashes and itching. When formaldehyde is in a product that gets sprayed into the eyes, it can damage the eyes and cause blindness. It is also a cancer hazard that is linked to nose and lung cancer.

Just a reminder, your health and safety come FIRST!

Crack the Code on Product Labels

Some people shop for hair care by looking for the “pretty” labels…essentially eye candy. Chic packaging does not ensure top of the line ingredients nor results. Reading labels is the only way to gather ingredient information to make an informed decision when purchasing.

When to Trim Your Hair

“How will I know when it’s time to trim my ends?” I get asked this question regularly and, actually, your hair will ‘tell’ you when it’s time for a trim. The tattle-tale ‘trim me NOW’ signs are:

  • Strands are splitting
  • Tangly ends
  • When hair is wet and your ends are particularly tangly or uneven

The rule of thumb for trimming hair is every two months – even if you trim off only a miniscule amount, your hair will look and feel better and be healthier.

Most damage comes from wet combing, so always remember to use a paddle brush when conditioner is in your hair – then rinse.

Use our wonderful Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner to keep your hair healthy, shiny and soft. It is the perfect product to use when heat treating your hair and the natural ingredients bond to your cortex, leaving your locks with greater elasticity and strength.
