Fighting for the RIGHT Message

I’m actually really trying to navigate my feelings on the entire hair issue and it’s tough doing that publicly.” ~Solange Knowles

In a recent interview with Lurve Magazine, Solange explains that it was never her intention to come across as an aggressive rant when she took to her Twitter to address the natural hair issue. “I really, truly was not even aware that there was a natural hair system in place to measure the texture of your hair,” she said, referring to the article in which her natural hair was criticized. “At that point I thought to myself, ‘This is really crazy. That these people know more about my hair than the human that even carries it!’ I went to my Twitter and sort of impulsively expressed that. I don’t regret it one bit, but sometimes trying to put how you feel in an one-hundred forty character structure is not really successful.”

She finishes the interview with this, “I was constantly fighting for the right message to be heard. The message that the way we wear our hair is a personal choice, there’s no right or wrong way.”

I agree Solange!

From the Inside Out

Coconut milk is excellent for strengthening your immune system since it’s loaded with vitamins and minerals. It’s also full of dietary fiber, promoting a healthy digestive system. When your body is replenished with essential vitamins and minerals, your digestive system is clear and you’re using nourishing hair care products (like Jane Carter Solution) - your hair will begin to thrive by default! Combine that with your daily intake of water (at least half your weight in ounces) and you’ll be full of energy and glowing in no time.

Here’s a Dr. Oz smoothie to make hair healthy from the inside out; combining coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and chia seed.  Chia seeds are loaded with essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and are an excellent source of protein which is essential for healthy skin, nails, and hair for only 216 calories per 16 ounce serving.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Stevia to sweeten*

Instructions:

  • Add almond milk and chia seeds then let sit for 15 minutes. Chia seeds will absorb milk and become jelly like.
  • Add remaining ingredients and stir
  • Serve and Enjoy!

Who Hurt You?

When you haven’t forgiven those who’ve hurt you, you turn your back against your future. When you do forgive, you start walking forward.

Someone has hurt you. You’re angry, sad and in pain…and you have every reason to be. You want them to hurt in the way that you are hurting; you want them to feel your pain; you want them to be punished for what they’ve done to you; you want revenge. Learning to forgive those who hurt us is an essential life skill, because it helps develop inner maturity, frees us from emotional bondage to the other person, and helps us develop the power to move on.

Forgiveness is a good thing, a necessary thing that leads to healing but it certainly is not an easy thing. If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them. They have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious when you open your heart. Forgiving someone does not mean denying a person’s responsibility for hurting you, nor does it mean minimizing, or justifying the act. It does mean willing to forgive someone without condoning or excusing what they did, and then letting it go.

Hispanic Heritage Month

For the past 48 years, the United States has officially celebrated Hispanic heritage nationwide. It wasn’t originally one month of celebration - President Lyndon B. Johnson started Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968. It was 24 years ago that President Ronald Reagan officially designated September 15 to October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. The 2012 theme is “Diversity United, Building America’s Future Today”. It encourages us to learn more about the extraordinary lives of Hispanic men and women. Hispanics serve as leaders in all professions throughout our communities.

We celebrate our fellow textured and curly Hispanic brothers and sisters here at Jane Carter Solution!

New York Fashion Week has hit the Big Apple! It kicked off last week with celebs popping up all over the city for Fashion’s Night Out followed by a multitude of fashion shows with stars are claiming front row seats at this season’s hottest runway shows .

Solange FULLY embraces her right to mix-and-match prints with leopard, houndstooth, geometric shapes – you did it all, topping off each eclectic ensemble with her signature coils. Her son Julez also rocked curls up top; they have different curl patterns and textures, as is in most families, but can use the same Jane Carter Solution products.
