Many tend to forget the meaning of Memorial Day; unofficially it has become the ceremonial start to summer. Many flock to local beaches or celebrate with family cookouts and gatherings. Let us not forget that Memorial Day is a time to honor, appreciate and never forget those who lost their lives while serving our country. Said freedoms we indulge in on this day — barbecues, swimming pools, fireworks and lake escapades — wouldn’t be possible without their sacrifice.
