| Esperanza Spalding is the jazz singer/musician who took the 2011 Grammy Awards by surprise winning the Best New Artist category. She may have virtually been unknown to some but she is well known to President Obama. She performed at the White House in September 2008 when the Obama’s honored Stevie Wonder, in December 2009 during the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, and again in April 2010 at the DNC reception in Miami, Florida.
