How Do You Define “Natural”?

There is a very interesting post on The Coil Review regarding, “what it means to be natural”. One way the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines natural is: existed in or produced by nature: not artificial. It also defines natural as: being in accordance with or determined by nature.

The author’s opinion is that, “being natural is not just the state of the hair, but also the state of the mind and spirit. If a woman claims to be natural, but her hair is covered under a wig or weave all the time, then I would not consider that natural-that is just chemical free. Further, excessive use of heat to straighten the hair or keratin treatments, isn’t ‘natural’ either—they are just other alternatives to a relaxer. To be natural is to proudly wear your hair texture of birth, freely and unrestrained”.

What is your opinion?
